If you are looking to purchase one of the many LCD monitor than you should understand all the different specifications of the models being offered. Bigger is not always necessarily better and you want to compare the different options. In order to understand everything you need to make sure you know what each of the terms that are being discussed mean.
Make sure you understand the different terms involved with describing these TVs so you can better discern the differences between sets.
The aspect ratio is also very important as this lets you know how many pixels are in the screen horizontally and vertically. Most aspect rations were 4:3 but the newest widescreen aspect ratios tend to be 16:10 or 16:9. Most high definition TVs will use 16:9. The new ultra wide screens will have an aspect ratio of 2:1.
LCD screens will provide you with the native resolution which counts the pixels used within the display. You will get a total number and not separate ones for vertical and horizontal pixels. You want to make sure that the resolution is set to higher than this number because otherwise you will get a fuzzy screen as extrapolation will occur.
You also want to look at the total number of pixels also known as the resolution as the more pixels you have the better the picture quality. There are recommended guidelines for setting the resolution and if you set your resolution to low than this can result in extrapolation which produces a fuzzy picture.
Most salesmen will focus on the contrast when selling LCD screens. This is the measurement found between the darkest blacks and the brightest whites. This difference will vary across the screen and what is advertised is the maximum. High contrast ratios make for excellent viewing and this is the bread and butter of the LCD.
