Dog Food Allergy: Alternative Treatments

If you are interested in alternative treatments for dog food allergy, there are several things you can try. Naturopathy, homeopathy and Chinese medicine are somewhat similar in the way they treat the problem with naturally occurring elements like herbs and organic compounds.

Homeopathic medicines can be used for treating acute problems as well as long-standing conditions in dogs. The great thing about homeopathic medicines is that they contain natural ingredients, including a range of minerals, herbs, and other organic matter.

Try locating a homeopathic vet in your area for natural good health of your dog. If you are unable to find a homeopathic vet, you can get the dog diagnosed by your regular vet and get the medicine from a local or online homeopathy drug store.

Something else which dog owners need to bear in mind, is that substances which come into contact with a dog\’s skin, such as hard water for example, can also result in itchiness. In that case, it is advisable to have your water tested, and if the problem persists, you can consider using some Aloe Vera gel or Calendula cream.

Harsh shampoos should always be avoided, irrespective of whether or not your dog has an allergy. If you\’re simply unable to use a shampoo designed specifically for dogs, then you can of course use a regular shampoo, providing it\’s a gentle kind such as baby shampoo.

Dogs that are fed a natural dog food diet also tend to experience less itching. You can also try adding in some probiotic foods, yogurt, and some multi-vitamins. Many dog owners also swear by the BARF (Bones and Raw Food) diet, but you need to bear in mind that even though this diet is natural, you could still find yourself having to deal with a dog food allergy, in that it all depends on what types of food your dog is allergic to.

Of course, if you intend using one or more of the alternative treatments for dog food allergy, then there are certain factors you need to take into consideration. For example, every dog is a unique individual, so a remedy which works for one may not work for another.

As such, you may have to try several different remedies before you find one which is effective, but even so, you should only ever try one of two at a time rather than trying several remedies together. Also, in order to save yourself some money, you should only purchase small quantities of each at first, until such time that you\’ve determined which medicines work the best.
